NINJA (2009) – New York, Bulgarian Style

I initially was drawn to NINJA (2009), a straight-to-video martial arts vehicle for Scott Adkins, back in 2011 because it was directed by Isaac Florentine, of “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” fame, but what struck me as I watched it was the way the filmmakers recreated its New York City setting in, of all places, Bulgaria. At first watch, I thought there might indeed be streets and neighborhoods in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, that resembled the Soho District of New York and the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
